Contemporary 1A (PM)

Contemporary 1A (PM) is a Ballet class at New Day Dance Academy.

At New Day Dance Academy

Contemporary 1A (For dancers who are enrolled in Ballet 1A) “WHAT IS CONTEMPORARY DANCE?” Contemporary dance combines elements of ballet, modern, and jazz, focusing on the contract and release of the body, unpredictable changes in rhythm, speed, and direction, incorporating floor work, fall & recovery, and improvisation. Contemporary dance provides dancers the opportunity to express emotion in a greater way through movement and breath. At New Day Dance Academy, our contemporary dance includes a strong emphasis on worship. In order to take a contemporary class, it is required to also be enrolled in a ballet class. In Contemporary 1A, students will begin to advance into a bit more in-depth contemporary technique within their center warm-up, across the floor exercises, floor work, and guided improvisation/worship. Students will begin to use more abstract concepts to inform their movement, will be encouraged to utilize greater force in their contract & release movements, and there will be a strong emphasis on dance as worship. Students will learn a dance to perform in our end-of-season performance.
